Irish Youth Football
Players are welcome to join Irish Youth Football during the years that they are in the 3rd through 6th grade. Their grade is based on the fall school year.
The football program is more competitive than the typical In-House sports programs. Scores, records and standings are kept throughout the regular season which determines the pairings for the playoff games held at the end of the regular season. A higher level of commitment is required for Irish Youth Football to the level of play, the complexity of the offense and defense, along with the high level of teamwork that goes into forming a football team.
All football players participate in a three day combine process. Divisions are created by grade. Teams are created within each division.
DIVISIONS
Junior Division (3rd and 4th graders):
In the Junior Division, plays, formations, terminology are basic in order to introduce the game at an appropriate level. In the Junior Division the offense is limited to a full house back field with two tight ends. The defense is the same for both divisions 5-4-2.
Senior Division (5th and 6th graders):
In the Senior Division, the plays and formations are expanded from the basic full house set. The level of competition in senior division increases dramatically and the coaching staff focuses on preparing the players for our tournament teams and middle school football.
TEAMS
Teams are formed via a coach’s draft after the combine.
The combine is the first week of the season. All players go through a series of drills testing their speed and agility. This allows the coaches to evaluate each player’s football abilities, skills, knowledge, and understanding of the game. All players are strongly encouraged to attend all evaluation sessions.
Players are notified by their coach and informed of the practice schedule.
